LaVonne Hass Obituary

LaVonne Hass
April 28, 1925 - September 9, 2025
LaVonne Rose (Habeger) Hass, a cherished member of the Madison community, passed away peacefully at Bethel Home at the age of 100 on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial will follow after the luncheon at Graceland Cemetery in Madison.
Born on April 28, 1925, in a home in Madison, SD to Jacob and Rosella (Klostreich) Habeger, LaVonne lived an amazing life full of love, dedication to her family, service to others and dedication to her faith. She graduated from Wentworth High School.
On June 29, 1946, LaVonne married the love of her life, Ralph Hass, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. Together they operated Ralph's Radio and TV in Madison until their retirement. Ralph and Von's union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, lasting until Ralph's passing at Bethel Home on April 20, 2005.
LaVonne volunteered at Bethel Lutheran Home and was a former Sunday School Superintendent at Trinity. She was one of the longest members of the Lake Madison Development Association. She enjoyed playing Bridge and being at their Lake Madison cottage. She also enjoyed casino trips with her sister, Eileen. The family would like to thank Bethel for the wonderful care they gave to LaVonne.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ralph; her father, Jacob "Jake" Rudolph Habeger; her mother, Rosella "Zella" (Klostreich) Habeger; infant brother, Jacob Jr. Habeger; and her beloved sisters, Ardyce (Habeger) Samp, Eileen (Habeger) Marek, and her nephew, Timothy Elden Samp. Her legacy is lovingly carried forward by a large family who adored her deeply.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Rollyn (Karen) Samp, Cindy (Duayne) Boesch, Bruce (Benjaporn) Marek, Greg (Monica) Marek, Gail (Jeff) Spars, Sharon (Mike) Halseth, Gary (Gloria) VanDuyn, and Russ (Midge) VanDuyn. Additionally, she leaves behind 11 great nieces and nephews, Michael Samp, Matthew Samp, Rebecca Van de Burg, Elizabeth Antonio, Anthony Boesch, April Boesch, Daniel Boesch, Jacob Marek, Jon Marek, Jason Spars and John Fire. Her family included many great-grand nieces and nephews and cousins.
One of her happiest moments was celebrating her 100th birthday on April 28th of this year, including official proclamations from Madison Mayor Roy Lindsey and Governor Larry Rhoden declaring April 28th LaVonne Hass Day.
LaVonne's life was a tapestry of love, family, and community spirit. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
