Lawrence Blumhagen, 83, Bismarck, went to his Heavenly home, surrounded by his family, on October 27, 2010, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 1, 2010, at First Evangelical Free Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Terry Kern and Rev. Kevin Lardy officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Lawrence was born December 23, 1926, in Sheridan County, ND, the son of William and Katie (Lauer) Blumhagen. Lawrence married Jerda Helm on June 12, 1949, in McClusky, ND, with Rev. Emmanuel Broeckel, great-uncle of the bride officiating. Lawrence worked as a truck driver and mechanic in Tuttle and Steele, and for the state of North Dakota from 1981 until his retirement in 1988. Lawrence was a member of First Evangelical Free Church. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jerda, Bismarck; his children, Bonnie (Doug) Arndt, Bismarck, Jolene (Lloyd) Giese, Steele, Phoebe (Tom) DeKrey, Bismarck, and Shanna (Trenton) Creeden, Winfield, KS; his grandchildren, Sarah Jo and Brandon Badding, Langdon, Steven and Emilie DeKrey, Grand Forks, Robert DeKrey and Jordan Arndt, both of Bismarck, and Race Creeden, Winfield, KS; his great-grandchildren, Cora, Aubrey, and Aeryn; his brothers, Reuben (Ardella) Blumhagen, NV, Albert (Lorraine) Blumhagen, Edwin (Beverly) Blumhagen, all of Bismarck; his sister, Pauline Roth, McClusky; his sisters-in-law, Darlene Blumhagen and Elva Blumhagen, both of Bismarck; his stepsiblings, Ardel (Barbara) Knodel, Fargo, Norman (Helen) Knodel, Bismarck, and Kathie Schiermeister, Tulsa, OK; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Edwin Knodel; three brothers, Lloyd, Leonard and Richard; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Ben) Schon; brother-in-law, Stanley Roth; and one stepsister, Violet Barone. The family wishes to give special thanks to the Medcenter One Dialysis Center, Dr. Lebeau, Dr. Youssef and also the Medcenter One nursing staff. Memorials may be given to the Medcenter One Dialysis Center or First Evangelical Free Church.
