With a heart full of love and a spirit at peace, Lawrence John Cherry of Sebastian, FL, passed "farther away from the world we know, and into the mystic." He died on February 16 in Vero Beach, FL, at the age of 65, following a long illness.
Larry was a man who made an unforgettable impression the moment he entered a room, not just because of his towering, 6-foot-7-inch frame, but because of his magnetic personality, generous spirit, and natural charm.
A devoted family man, Larry took great pride in his role as a husband and father. He always lit up when speaking about his two sons, who were the center of his world.
By trade, Larry was a skilled carpenter, crafting everything from custom homes to heirloom-quality rocking horses. His home in Sebastian and his previous home in Princeton, NJ, were masterpieces he built for his family-testaments to his talent, love for detail, and the pride he took in his work. Within his bespoke kitchen, Larry was an amazing chef. He delighted his family with delicious meals made from scratch, believing in starting fresh with each lovingly-planned meal rather than ever using leftovers.
Born in June 1959 to Helen Ragany Cherry and Lawrence W. Cherry Jr., Larry grew up in Franklin Park, NJ. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in Piscataway in 1977. Larry's early career was spent as a contractor and a business manager for PSE&G. In the early 2000s, he relocated with his young family to Florida, embracing the warmth of the Sunshine State. He and his wife enjoyed the beaches of the Treasure Coast, Orlando's theme parks, and the spectacular sunsets along the Gulf.
As a man of great wisdom and intellect, literature was a lifelong companion. Yet nothing soothed his soul more than listening to music, especially live rock bands. Drawing from one of his favorite songs, it is apt to say: Like every rose, Larry's life had its thorns. His strength and grace in the face of unfathomable challenges were unmatched. His love and kindness will always be remembered in a lasting legacy of warmth and compassion.
Larry leaves behind cherished memories with those who loved him most. He is survived by his best friend and wife of more than 40 years, Jill; his sons, Brian and Beau of Sebastian; two sisters and two brothers, along with their spouses; eight nieces and nephews; one great-niece; aunts; and dozens of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry's life will be celebrated at a private memorial service.

This is so hard. I've been besties with Jill since I was 10 we met Larry when we were 16 trying to get into a bar with fake id. He was bouncing the door. We've stayed close all these years raising our families together celebrating milestones going thru tragedies. It is simply impossible for me to edit a lifetime of shared experiences. Larry was 1 of the smartest people I've ever known. Having philosophical arguments with him was one of my lifes pleasures lol. He was also a master craftsman truly an artist. He put his heart and soul into all his projects and it showed. I loved him. He loved life and he loved sharing that with you. Beau Brian Linda Don Kevin Diane I'm sorrier than I can ever say. Jill. I got you girlie mine. Well get thru this together.

So sorry to hear about Larry's passing. He was at the top of the list of our group of 34 cousins...and not only because he was the tallest. He will be missed.

Jill..
I have such good and wonderful memories of Larry helping me set up my home when I moved to Florida. He painted my rooms, put in sprinkler system,etc.. Whenever I called, he was there for me. I will miss him greatly.

So sad to hear that my cousin and across-the-street neighbor, Larry, has passed away. My family's hearts go out to Jill, Brian and Beau and hope they find strength during this difficult time.

Larry and Beau always made sure that Trey participate in whatever schemes and unexpected opportunities the woods around our homes offered up.

This continued even when we dropped in unannounced to the Cherry's new Florida home with Larry insisting that Trey stay overnight to revisit and recall NJ memories. Good times!

Our heartfelt condolences to the extended Cherry family. May God bless and impart His strength to you.

I loved my sweet cousin Larry. I remember all the cousins playing down at grama's house and he was usually the ring-leader of the boys. We played outside until it got too dark to see! He was always so much fun to be around. I remember that he came and visited me when I was in the hospital once. That was such a loving gesture! May the Lord bless him and his sweet family!
