Lawrence "Larry" Craney, 77, formerly of Independence, IA passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Independence. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will follow the service at St. John's Cemetery in Independence. A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following burial. Anderson Funeral Homes of Marshalltown has been entrusted with the arrangements. Larry was born on November 9, 1948, in Independence to Cecil H. and Rita C. (Moroney) Craney; their first child.

Larry attended Westburg Township County School for the first year of his education and later attended Independence Schools. He graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1968.

In 1970, Larry joined the Army and served as an avionics mechanic in Vietnam from May 2, 1970, until September 17, 1971. He served with the 219th Avionics Company (near Pleiku) in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

On April 16, 2019, Larry, his brother, Leo, and brother-in-law, Russell Kreutner, participated in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

A Quilt of Valor was presented to Larry on October 18, 2020, at the VFW Post Number 788 of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Proceeding Larry in death were his parents, three brothers: Paul, Leo, and Mike, two infant sisters, and one nephew.

Larry is survived by one sister, Ann (Russell); two nieces, Kelli and Julie (Brett); two nephews, Jeremy (Kristi) and Nickolas, one great nephew, Topher, and three great nieces, Macey, Paige, and Kaylin.

Thanks to the Iowa Veteran's Home and Belle Plaine Specialty and Rehabilitation for their excellent care. Thank you to Suncrest Hospice and Iowa River Hospice for their attention to Larry's needs.
