Lawrence Flachs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes- Holt Delhi Chapel on Jan. 30, 2026.
Lawrence M. Flachs, Larry by those who knew him best, passed away on January 27, 2026 at McLaren's Hospital in Lansing. Born on February 9, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Michael and Irene (Hopkins).

Raised in Remus, Michigan, he raised pigs and other animals on the Family farm, achieving awards that spoke to his dedication and care for his animals. Larry loved Hunting and Fishing with family and friends. Larry would work at his Dad's Garage/Gas station at various times to help out. In High school, he ran track where he held the track record for many years. He also played basketball and baseball. His love for sports continued into adulthood where he joined and captained a softball team for GM. Larry and others drove from Remus to Lansing to start his career at GM.

Beyond his professional life, Larry was a man of many talents and interests. In his 20s, he was known for racing cars and snowmobiles, earning him numerous trophies and enjoyment; this meant he was the guy to beat in town, I know, "421 Catalina 2+2". This time period is when he met Patty at the "GUT" in Lansing as they called it in the 60's, then they dated and married on July 25th, 1969. Larry's life was not all about work and competition; he was a rock for his family, a devoted son and husband to his late wife, Patty, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage until her passing in 2019. Larry in 1999 retired from General Motors after 35 dedicated years, leaving behind many close friendships.

He and his beloved Patty would spend hours watching chipmunks and hummingbirds in their backyard under the gazebo in the summer months. His green thumb flourished in his garden, and he took great pride in the plants he nurtured; Larry and Patty loved watching Butterflies at home and Meijer Gardens. Larry and Patty also loved watching their 4 hummingbird feeders. Larry enjoyed wood working in his shop.

Generous, handy, and selfless – these words best describe Larry. He was always willing to lend a hand to family and neighbors alike. His ability to fix and create ("Flachs" it up as we call it) was not just a skill but a Family Tradition of making it work with what you have.

Larry is survived by his sister Janet Simon, brother Gordon Flachs, sons Michael, and Allan (Shelby) Flachs; grandchildren Autumn, Alec, and Miranda, as well as 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Larry on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, at Palmer, Bush and Jensen Holt-Delhi Chapel located at 5035 Holt Rd., Holt, MI 48842 SW corner of Holt Rd and N Eifert Rd. at 11:00 am for family and funeral at 12:00 pm, followed by lunch at Palmer Bush & Jensen (same location).
