On the evening of September 10, 2025, Lawrence Edwin Garlinghouse Sr. passed away at Evergreen Hospital. Larry was surrounded by his family the entire day and went peacefully without any pain and suffering. Larry was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on December 2, 1936, to Lester and Gladys Garlinghouse. Larry was a dedicated Scout when he was in his youth, reaching the pinnacle of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Bliss High School, and later studied Marketing at the University of Idaho. Immediately following graduation, Larry was drafted into the US Army where he served as a Company Clerk until he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1962.

After the Army, Larry went into the Insurance industry as a Claims Adjuster. He became a well-respected expert in the field and took additional classes to become a General Casualty/Claims Adjuster. He served as an active member of the Seattle Claims Association for many years and later served as President of this Association.

In his free time, Larry enjoyed woodworking, and all the hand and power tools that go along with the hobby. He read countless books and magazines on the subject, looking for new techniques and ideas. In his readings, he came up with an idea to build his own band saw, using wood and parts from other tools he had that he wasn't using any longer. It took him many, many months, but he built this band saw, and it still works to this day. He was very proud of it, and he really enjoyed the whole process.

Larry was a very kind and friendly man. He always went out of his way to make the people around him feel comfortable. He was quick to say hello to anyone walking down the street as he worked in the yard. He always made conversations with people in all situations from an employee at a store to nurses and doctors in the hospital. Larry loved having conversations with people, and people loved conversing with him. Larry also loved animals. In July 2025 his son (Ed) and wife (Telma) moved into his Kirkland home with their dog (Zelda). Larry adored little Zelda so much and was so glad to have a pet in the house again.

Larry met Gen McClory on Friday August 13, 1965, at a dance at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle. Larry and Gen married on May 21,1966. They raised 2 children together. Their daughter, Marie Elizabeth Garlinghouse (Meg), was born on February 8, 1967. Their son Lawrence Edwin Garlinghouse Jr (Ed) was born on April 19, 1969. They primarily lived in Kirkland since 1974.

Larry is survived by his wife Gen, his 2 children Meg (Jack) LeComp and Ed (Telma) Garlinghouse. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Chloe LeComp and Cooper LeComp. He is also survived by 2 step-grandchildren, Alex Ganske and Max Ganske. Larry is also survived by by his sister Ellen Rainey.
