Lawrence "Larry" Herbers

Lawrence Herman "Larry" Herbers, 83, Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Larry was born in Wichita, Kansas, on July 24, 1942, the son of Sylvester and Pauline Frischenmeyer Herbers. He graduated from Winfield High School and went on to play football at Arkansas City Community College and baseball at Wichita State University. Larry proudly served in the Kansas Army National Guard.

He married Sonya Ojile in Wichita, Kansas, on November 26, 1966. Larry dedicated 32 years to the Kansas Highway Patrol, retiring with the rank of Master Trooper. Following his retirement, he continued his commitment to public service as a security officer for the Kansas Attorney General's Office.

An avid golfer, Larry enjoyed playing often and was a proud member of the Kansas Senior Golf Association. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Kansas State University athletics and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Wildcats. Larry was a loving grandfather who took great joy in attending his grandchildren's activities, especially baseball, gymnastics, and Washburn football.

Above all, Larry was a devout Catholic whose faith was central to his life and guided him in all he did.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sonya; daughters, Shannon Peavler (Mike) and Shelly Blanding (Mitch); grandchildren, Danielle Peavler, Whitney Maniscalco (Michael), Brooks Peavler (Rachel), Brent Peavler, Brianna Blanding, and Dalton Blanding; great grandchildren, Quinn, Emma, and Vincent; and brothers, Don Herbers (Mona), Tom Herbers (Shirley), and Chuck Herbers (Linda); along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Herbers.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614, where the rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2026, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, 2014 NW 46th Street, Topeka, KS 66618. Private entombment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
