Richard Herbers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Crematory on May 21, 2025.
With heavy hearts but filled with blessed, happy memories, we celebrate the life of Rick Herbers. He was born as Richard Patrick Herbers on January 11,1967 in Cincinnati, OH, but many knew him simply as "Herbs" or "Slick Rick". After a valiant battle with cancer, he left us peacefully on May 18, 2025, never once complaining about his suffering or trials.
Rick was the epitome of the hardworking, loyal, loving family man. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved, especially his beloved wife, Debbie Chalk Herbers. They had 26 wonderful years together. He was also devoted to his two daughters, Allie and Karissa (Steven) and he cherished every moment he shared with his grandchildren, Aubree and Liam. Rick was so very proud of all of them and didn't miss the opportunity to brag about them and their latest accomplishments. His love was not limited to mere humans. Ellie and Gunner, his two dogs, also held a very warm spot in his heart and were treated just like family.
The most important thing to Rick other than family was his work. He was the polar opposite of a slacker. To Rick, work was life. His motto was "Work Hard. Play Hard." He was the dedicated Regional Manager at Miller's Textile, a position which was more than just a job to him. He truly cared about his customers and was committed to putting in as much time as needed to get the job done. His entire career was a testimony to that work ethic. Rick continued to work right up to the weekend of his hospital admission.
Rick was a true sports enthusiast who liked watching many different kinds of sports, playing a few of them, but who ALWAYS enjoyed betting on the games' outcomes more than just viewing or taking part in the games alone. He found happiness in all things in life, big or small, whether it was shooting pool with his buddies at Vince's or Snow's; enjoying a round of golf (or just hanging out and chatting with the guys until all hours of the night after); chasing a good poker hand at a casino; or playing KENO with family and friends.
We will remember Rick for his special sense of humor, his ever-present smile, his beautiful blue eyes and his hair that he loved almost as much as we who loved him did. We will think of him whenever we hear his favorite songs: "Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith, "American Pie" by Don McLean, "The Dance" by Garth Brooks and "Shout" by Tears for Fears. These tunes will forever carry the essence of his spirit, inviting us to celebrate the moments that made him so special when we hear them.
Rick leaves behind his loving wife Debbie; his two daughters, Allie (Alex) and Karissa (Steven); his grandchildren, Aubree and Liam; his father, Albert Mulholland (Diane); his mother and father, Judy and Harry Brown; his sisters, Lisa Laugle (Mike) and Theresa Herbers; his brother-in-law Danny Chalk (Shawnte); his nieces, Melissa Amitrano, Kaitlyn Hagedorn, Emily Smith and Lauren Chalk; and his nephews, Michael Laugle, Ben Laugle, Zach Chalk and Bear Chalk. He also leaves behind numerous friends, many whom he has known from the first decade of his life, testifying once again to the loyalty of his character. All these lives he has touched with his kindness, humor and faithfulness.
In honoring Rick's life, we invite friends and family to join us on Friday, May 30, 2025 for visitation starting at 12:30 PM at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231 (follow the blue line upon entering the memorial park). A memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM with an inurnment immediately following. Family and friends are invited to join us for a reception at Snow's Lakeside Tavern, 4344 Dry Ridge Road, 45252.
As we come together to honor Rick, the husband, father, son, uncle, buddy, friend, associate, let us keep his spirit alive through our shared stories, laughter and love, just as he would have wanted us to do. He was always "The Life of the Party!" Our memories of Rick will be a source of comfort and celebration. We will carry the joy he brought to each of our lives forever in our hearts.

To the Herbers family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Rick took care of all our textile needs for years. I will greatly miss our conversations with him. He always made me laugh. All your friends at Jesuit Spiritual Center/milford

Ooooh Allie and Karissa my heart hurts for you both. Your Dad and the infectious smile he ALWAYS had on his face will be forever missed. He was one of the GOOD GUYS. Prayers to all who loved Rick.
