Lawrence Robert Klemstein, 88, of
Comfort, TX passed peacefully from this earthly life on February 16, 2026.
Lawrence was born on October 1, 1937, to Charles and Frieda Klemstein. He started school at the Block Creek School house (only speaking German) and graduated from Comfort High School. After high school, he worked many years as an airplane inspector at Mooney Aircraft, owned and operated the Rathskeller Drive-In for 10 years with his beautiful wife, Ruth, served his country in the Army Reserves, and served his community as a Kendall County Commissioner, School Board and Appraisal Board member, along with many years of ranching. He loved hunting, fishing, 42 dominos, and spending time with his family and friends.
Lawrence married the love of his life, Ruth Laverne Jost, on March 27, 1959. They shared 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2020. He is survived by their children: Cheryl Dee Costello (David); and Brenda Renee Elsworth. He is also survived by granddaughters Reagan (Ryan) Costello White, Shelby (Kyle) Costello Curbow, both of Roanoke VA; and Madison (Matthew) Elsworth Petermann of Houston; great-grandchildren Kayla White, Finn White (expected April 2026), Miles Curbow, Caden Petermann, and Brooks Petermann; and Sister-in-laws Jeanette Jost Biermann (Bobbie), and Joyce Jost Harzco, and numerous dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth, parents Charles and Frieda Klemstein; parent in-laws, Rev. Walter and Elsa Jost; and siblings Erwin Klemstein, Werner Klemstein, Arno Klemstein, Elizabeth Bynum, and Margaret Marquart.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of New Century Hospice Services, Cibolo Creek Nursing Home, and the compassionate caregivers.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the Comfort cemetery. A celebration of life and lunch will follow at "The Lobby" in
Comfort, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Comfort VFD or the
charity of your choice.
