Alfredo Arizola Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schaetter Funeral Home - Comfort on Feb. 9, 2026.
Alfredo V. Arizola, born on June 13, 1948, died February 8, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Texas, and grew up alongside one sister and three brothers. He was raised in Comfort, Texas, where he also attended school. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work, shearing sheep alongside his father.

During his senior year of high school, he married his childhood sweetheart, Yolanda Martinez. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four daughters, two of whom preceded him in death. On March 8th, 2025, they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War with the 82nd Airborne Division and was wounded in combat. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device (1960), Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, and the Parachutist Badge.

Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the United States Border Patrol Class #107. Stationed initially in Douglas, Arizona, his work took his family across the country, including Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, and Puerto Rico. He advanced through the ranks and retired in 2004 as an Assistant Director for Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement with the Department of Homeland Security in Houston, Texas.

After retirement, he returned home to Comfort, Texas, where he embraced retirement while remaining deeply involved in his community. He joined local organizations, served as chaplain for the Comfort VFW Post 8569, volunteered at the Comfort Golden Age Center, and served on the Board of Directors for the San Jose Cemetery. Above all, he cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren-moments he treasured most. Despite his many accomplishments, he considered his family to be his greatest achievement.

Alfredo is survived by his wife Yolanda Arizola, daughters Paula Arizola and Lisa Nieto (Victor); grandchildren; Jordan, Shelby (Rob), Seth, Renley, and Bella; great-grandchildren; Julian and Roman; siblings Arthur Arizola, Rosalinda Molinar (David), George Lopez Jr. (Diana), Domingo Arizola Jr. He was beloved by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents, Domingo Arizola Sr., Valeria Arizola, Elva Lopez, George Lopez Sr., his eldest daughters Paula J. Arizola and Monica Poche; grandparents John Valderaz Sr and Josie Valderaz, Lalo and Damacia Arizola, and his in-laws Apolinar and Herminia Martinez.

Al was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. He adored Yolie. I have known him since my days with INS Investigations. He always had a smile on his face; he never hesitated to help anyone. He really was one in a million. He touched countless lives. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. May God send his strength and blessings to you and your family.
