Lawrence “Larry” Raymond Evans, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Larry was born on May 19, 1941, in Aurora, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Vera (Voshell) Evans. He was a 1959 graduate of Aurora High School. After graduation, his grandfather sold him his painting equipment and helped him paint houses and other projects. Larry was first united in marriage to Karen Beckett, and together they welcomed two children, Jeffery and Lisa. The couple later divorced. He later married Kellee Kemp, and they had two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica. That marriage also ended in divorce.
Throughout his life, Larry worked for various painting companies across Iowa. After returning to Cedar Rapids, he began a 17-year career with The Gazette Company. In later years, he and Kellee inherited a restaurant and bar and eventually operated a small engine repair, sales, and handyman business until his retirement. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing softball. He also had a love for collecting antiques, oil painting, gardening, playing cards, and visiting the casino.
Larry is survived by his son, Jeffery Scott Evans of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Lisa (James) Sanders of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer (Christopher) DeLarm of Marion, and Jessica Evans of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Benjamin Sanders and Sydney (Wesley) Johnson, Alexander, and Amelia DeLarm; and siblings, Donald Evans of Conroe, Texas, Susan Maack of New Jersey, Sally Guyer of Clermont, Iowa, Terry Evans of Oelwein, Iowa, and Ronald (Deanna) Evans of Fayette, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Evans
