Lawrence (Larry) Earle McCumber, age 82, passed away on January 21, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born in Miami, Florida, on October 10, 1943, Larry was a preacher’s son who lived in many small towns, primarily in Florida. But he spent many of his formative years in Thomasville, Georgia, which he considered his hometown. He graduated from Thomasville High School in 1961. Shortly after high school, Larry answered the call to service, joining the United States Air Force. He served honorably for 4 years, until his discharge in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant. He went on to be a computer programmer, retiring in 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Bill and Doris McCumber and his brother, Bruce McCumber.

He is survived by his wife, Renee McCumber; children, Karen Medina, Kristy Coley, Charles McCumber, and Megan McCumber; grandchildren Andrew Golden, Jacob Perkins, Shelby Thomes, Gabriel Cox-McCumber, Connor McCumber, Teaguen McCumber, and Zaine McCumber; and siblings, Bert McCumber, Bill McCumber, and Jean McCumber.

Donations can be made in Larry’s memory to the Friends of the Blue Ridge. Larry loved the smoky mountains and especially driving a long the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Larry was a dedicated and loving husband and father who will be greatly missed.
