Tyree Funeral Home, Inc. - Mount HopeLawrence A. Miller, age 90, of Pierpoint WV passed away from result of a brief and sudden illness on October 27, 2025 at Raleigh General Hospital. Born on May 20, 1935 in Lindsey WV he was the son to his father Fred Miller and Amanda Dingess.
Lawrence was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, in-law and many other titles. He was married to Janie D. Miller on July 3, 1957 and that union lasted for 63 years until her death. With this union they created 5 children, Tony, Gary, Lawrence Jr., Randy and Karen, all of whom were quite proud of both of their parents’ guidance and demonstration of the proper way to treat others.
Lawrence was a combined 44 year employee of the N&W Railway and Norfolk Southern Railroad until his retirement in 1997 where he worked in various positions in their maintenance departments. After his retirement he proceeded to also drive for different transportation taxi services local to the Mullens area by transporting the rail crews to and from their needed locations. During his free time when he was able, he enjoyed fishing with his friends from his youth on a semi-annual basis in Mingo County on the Tug Fork River. Upon his final farewell to the many years of working and retirement from the taxi service, Lawrence stayed at home to assist in the care of his beloved wife Janie until her death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Miller and Amanda Dingess Lewis and his dad, Otis U. Lewis, who took the responsibility of raising Lawrence from a young energetic boy. Also preceded in death was his loving wife Janie, his son Lawrence Miller Jr., his loving daughter in law, Teresa G. Miller and his father and mother-in-law Samuel and Mary Bell Daniels along with brother-in-law Scotty Daniels and sister-in-law Dimple Daniels; a few nieces and nephews; and his three beloved dogs, Rascal, Odie, and Howie.
Survivors include his children Tony (Betty Jo), Gary (Peggy), Randy and Karen Adkins (Bob) sisters Mary Staton and Phoebe Ann Campbell, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, in laws Troy Daniels (Cathy), Elbert Daniels (Caroline), Lois Cardwell (Andrew), Shirley Phillips (Robert), Burl Daniels (Shelia), David Daniels (Nancy), Lynn Warrix (John) and Debbie Hatfield (Michael) and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon on Saturday November 1, 2025, at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Hope with Pastor John Morgan officiating.
