Salerno’s Funeral Home-Rosedale Chapel - RoselleLawrence Timothy Naughton (known to family and friends as Tim or Larry), cherished brother, husband, father and grandfather, departed this life on October 30, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on February 16, 1944 in Blue Island, IL to Harriet Miller and James Naughton, Sr., Tim was the youngest of six siblings.
Tim approached life with both a steady and supportive presence as well as a fun-loving outlook. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and dedicated over 30 years of his professional life as a computer programmer-systems analyst. A devoted husband to Rita for 56 years, he built a life filled with laughter and love. The joy of being a father to Erin and Laura, father-in-law to Steven and Nicolai, as well as a Papa to his three grandsons—Scott, Sorin and Alec— were among his proudest accomplishments. He reveled in every moment spent with them, ensuring their lives were filled with warmth and affection.
His gentle demeanor and adventurous spirit were hallmarks of his character. An ancestry enthusiast, Tim spent his time extensively researching and documenting the heritage of his family. An avid card player, he cherished playing with friends and family (especially when he was winning). Later in life, Tim took up ballroom dancing at the request of his wife. He was surprised to find out how greatly he enjoyed it as he did traveling nationally and internationally with both family and friends.
A generous spirit, he was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, embodying the true essence of kindness. Tim served as a Minister of Care and P.A.D.S. volunteer at St. Walter Church, where he touched the lives of many through his compassionate service.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife, Rita; their two daughters, Erin Naughton (Steven Waxler) and Laura Naughton (Nicolai Czumaj-Bront); and his treasured grandsons, Scott, Sorin and Alec. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and camaraderie through his surviving siblings: James (Judy) Naughton Jr., John (the late Donna and Karen) Naughton, Joan (Charles) Emery, Joseph (Pat) Naughton, and the late Thomas (Betty) Naughton. He is also an adored brother-in-law to Sharon (Richard) Pries, Kathleen (Keith) Vermoch and Maureen Halleran; in addition to being a fond uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, James (Dorothy) Naughton Sr. and Harriett (Cecil) Miller. His spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He has left a lasting imprint of love, joy and benevolence that will resonate in the hearts of many for years to come.
