Lawrence Doland Nelson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Barrington, IL, at the age of 78. Born on July 22, 1947, Lawrence, known affectionately as Larry to his loved ones, lived a life characterized by love, laughter, and the unwavering dedication to his family.
He shared a blissful 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maureen, who was his partner in every sense of the word. Together, they raised five children, Amy (Steve) Baumgartner-Lockwood, Vicky (Tom) Cooper, Justen (Lisa) Nelson, Michael (Sara) Nelson, Tim (Michelle) Nelson, who were the center of Lawrence's world. His legacy continues through his, 21 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and took great joy in their every accomplishment. He was proceeded in death by his parents Dolan & Gerry Nelson, siblings, Debra L. and Todd C. Nelson
A devout Christian, his interests and passions were as diverse as his talents. An avid member of the Drum & Bugle Corp, he found solace and joy in the rhythms of music. His love for speed and adventure was evident in his enthusiasm for boating, snowmobiling with his sons, and his passion for muscle cars and motorcycles.
A multi-instrumentalist, Lawrence's musical talents were not just limited to performance; he was a dedicated fan of classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin and The Doors, as well as the soothing melodies of Karen Carpenter. His family often fondly recalls the sounds of his music filling their home, creating a soundtrack to their lives.
Those who knew Lawrence will remember him standing over a simmering pot of his homemade spaghetti sauce, a recipe that he perfected over the years and was always eager to share with loved ones. His sense of humor was unmatched, often bringing laughter and light into any room he entered. His favorite film, "The Godfather," was a topic he could discuss for hours, reflecting his appreciation for storytelling and the complexities of familial bonds.
Lawrence had a love for animals and a unique ability to connect with all creatures great and small especially his chihuahua's and tootsie.
Described by those who knew him as loving, funny, and friendly, Lawrence Doland Nelson's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one person can have on so many. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the memories of those he touched. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
