Lawrence Pelon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roth-Gerst Chapel - Lowell on Dec. 24, 2025.
Lawrence Andrew Pelon, Jr., age 84, of Lowell, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence "Dude" Pelon Sr.; mother, Margaret (Lowe) Pelon; sister, Margaret "Anne" Pelon; and his beloved dog, Dallas. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Carrie (Albus) Pelon; son, Clayton Pelon; daughter, Heather Pelon; grandchildren, Kelsey Rose Goodenow and Robert Lawrence Goodenow; niece Marie Custer and nephews George Custer and Wayne Custer. Larry earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 1971 while simultaneously putting himself through college working as a full-time police officer. A longtime resident of Lowell for over 50 years, his career was diverse and impactful. He served as a police officer in Barry County, Lake Odessa, Lowell, and Whitehall. Larry also taught in Grand Rapids Public Schools for a year and later became a salesman for Trans American Trucking Service. He was an active member of his community serving on the Lowell YMCA board, as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 102, and he coached 8th grade basketball at Lowell Middle School. Larry enjoyed a life full of hobbies including baseball, bowling, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, hunting, and skiing. He had many great years wintering in Bisbee, Arizona where he and Carrie made many friends. Larry was a very active player and course marshal at the Turquoise Valley Golf Course in Bisbee. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, contagious laugh, quick wit, extraordinary storytelling, and his love for the outdoors and horse farm in Lowell. Larry loved sitting around the fire with great friends, eating, laughing, and telling stories. In this manner, a celebration of life will be held outdoors this summer.
