Lawrence Rowenhorst, 84, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022 at his residence.
Private services will be held. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Lawrence, the son of Lawrence and Johanna (Duistemars) Rowenhorst, was born Dec. 8, 1938, in Orange City, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Orange City and attended Newkirk School. After high school, Lawrence started working at Swift Packing Company in Sioux City.
Lawrence was united in marriage to Elaine Thorson on Sept. 22, 1959, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and this union was blessed with two children. The family made their home in Sioux City and Lawrence worked as a police officer for the City of Sioux City for 22 years until his retirement.
Throughout the years, some of Lawrence' hobbies included fishing, boating, collecting antique toy tractors, and mowing his yard. He truly enjoyed and looked forward to having coffee with his dear friends, Ron Schultz and Jim Nixon. Lawrence was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Danny) Tipton of Tennessee; son, Corby (Sharon) Rowenhorst of Tennessee; three granddaughters Kirsten Shrader, Raini Rowenhorst (Gage Armstrong), and Makay Rowenhorst; two great-grandchildren Whitney and Justus Shrader; two sisters Lois DeHaan and Carolyn Jonker; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine on Sept. 30, 2014; and brother, Cliff Rowenhorst.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church, 4400 Central St. Sioux City, IA 51108.

My thoughts and prayers to the family, it was my pleasure of getting to know Elaine and Larry I was their beautician well Elaine´s until she past and Larry´s the Thursday before he past, I´m in shock that he is gone he was a rough and tough on the outside but to get to know him he was so funny and kind he will be missed. I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He was an amazing man. I have fond memories of him. I pray you will find comfort knowing that he is in the arms of his loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
