Lawrence Singleton, a cherished member of the community known for his craftsmanship as a mechanic, passed away on January 14, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 70. Born on March 6, 1955, Lawrence's professional journey saw him work across South Carolina and Georgia, where his expertise and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of those fortunate enough to know him.
Educated in the Aiken County School System, Lawrence cultivated a talent for mechanics that transformed into a lifelong career. His skilled hands not only repaired vehicles but also created lasting memories for those he served. He was well-regarded for his excellence in his trade, contributing significantly to the lives of countless individuals throughout the region.
Beyond his professional life, Lawrence found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He thrived in the great outdoors, embracing activities such as farming, fishing, and logging. He was particularly known for his barbequing skills, which brought family and friends together, creating a warm atmosphere filled with laughter and camaraderie. His contagious smile could brighten anyone's day, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Lawrence is survived by his son, Brian Kelley; siblings Patricia Rembert, Linda Bryant, Claretha Starks, Clyde Starks, Sandra Harrison, David Starks, and Terry Smith; his beloved aunt, Georgiana McKinley; and longtime friend, MaryAnn Kelley, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His legacy endures through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Smith and Anna Bell Boyd; children Latoya Kelley and Lawrence Kelley; sister Debra Starks; siblings Clarence Boyd, Harvey Smith, Jr., and George Watkins; brother-in-law Fred Bryant; and brother-in-law Sanko K. Rembert.
Lawrence Singleton will be remembered not only as a talented mechanic but also as a beloved family member and friend whose joyous spirit and dedication to others will forever be cherished.
