Lawrence William "Bill" Smith, 84, a resident of Norton, passed from this life Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Bill was born Wednesday, July 23, 1941, in Norton, a son of the late Lawrence Smith and Lorita Mae Friel. On December 24, 1966, he was married to the former Carol Yvette Burns who survives. They would have celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Also left to cherish Bill's memory is two children, Thomas Smith and wife, Becky, of Elkins, and Paula Scott and husband, Curtis, of Norton, one brother, Lloyd Smith and wife, Vicky, of Norton, one sister, Alice "Faye" Stanton of Buckhannon, six grandchildren, Brett Smith and wife, Chelsea, of Weston, Logan Smith and fiancé, April, of Morgantown, Jesse Sampson, Damien Sampson, Brianna Feaster, and Kasey Feaster, all of Elkins, two great grandchildren, Barrett Smith of Weston and Gage Smith of Morgantown, several nieces and nephews, and his dog, Maggie.
Preceding Bill in death besides his parents were three sisters, Jenny Chilton, Juanita "Tiny" McCauley, and Beatrice Mae Smith, one infant brother, and a grandson, C.J. Scott.
Bill attended the schools of Randolph County. He had worked for Valley Camp Coal Company from which he retired. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife, Carol. He loved his family very much, and spending time with his grandchildren was a favorite thing to do.
Bill's request for cremation was honored.
