Lawrence Stauffer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2025.
Lawrence Henry Stauffer, 90, of Douglasville, GA passed away on September 26, 2025 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, GA. Larry was born on June 27, 1935 in Greensburg, PA. He was the oldest of four children of Henry and Alta Mae Stauffer. He was devoted to his wife, Mary Alice, who preceded him in death in 2022. They had been married for 66 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister Sally Wolff and her husband Fritz; brother Niles "Archie" Stauffer; grandsons Eric Kittiko and Kristopher Cook; and son-in-law Jay Smith.

He is survived by his brother, Byron Stauffer and his wife Sue; sister-in-law Roberta Stauffer; children Winnie and Paul Kittiko, Randy and Eunice Stauffer, Shari and Derrell Cook, and Darci Smith; grandchildren Katie and Thomas Willis, Becky and Josh Word, Jesse and Storey Stauffer, Daniel and Whitney Stauffer, Jessica Cook, Eric and Paula Cook, Candace Smith, MaryKate and Michael Gonzales, and Josh and Kelly Smith; great grandchildren Connor and Claire Willis, Charlotte and Ava Word, Lori Stauffer, Kayleigh Cook, and Andrew and Cameron Cook; and many nieces and nephews.

Dad graduated from Greensburg-Salem High School and attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University), obtaining degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering. During his career he worked for PPG, Toyad Company, and retired from Nalco Chemical Company (now Ecolab). He also started Amdex Metallizing Company with his brothers. Dad could fix any household appliance or automobile and was happy to help anyone at no charge. He was the only person we knew who could paint a room with perfect lines in an oxford shirt and chinos and never get a drop of paint on him. He was also an early user of the home computer and could build you one from scratch.

After his retirement, Dad drove a bus for Douglas County Schools, primarily for special needs students. He was one of the drivers caught in Snowmageddon 2014. He viewed it as just another adventure while caring for his kids and keeping them safe. He was so proud that his CDL would be valid until he turned 92. It was a job that he loved and he was heartbroken when his health no longer allowed him to drive a bus.

Dad lived most of his life in Greensburg, PA, moving to Lithia Springs, GA in 1985 to be near the grandkids. He was always up for an adventure and loved to travel in the US to visit friends and family. He loved to shop and could always find you the best deal on whatever you needed. Besides his family, his Christian faith and love for Jesus were most important to him. He taught Sunday School for many years. Our family is blessed by the foundation of faith that was built for us by him and our mom. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Pleasant Hills Baptist Church.
