Obituary of Lawrence E. Taylor Sr
Lawrence Earl Taylor, Sr., age 85, of Iowa City, died Friday, June 21, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. A gathering for friends and family will take place at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. To share a condolence with his family please visit the funeral home website @ .
Lawrence Earl Taylor Sr. born February 14, 1939, in Jackson Mississippi to the beloved Josephine and Esree Taylor. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very early age and was baptized. Lawrence moved to Chicago in 1944 and attended High school in Chicago,
Illinois.
Lawrence loved the Lord and worshiped him at Mount Salem Baptist church under the leadership of Reverend Cooper in Chicago Illinois. Lawrence was employed at Barnaby's Brothers Sara Lee Entenmann bakery. He retired from Kropp Forge Steel Mill after working there for 35 years.
Lawrence moved to Iowa city in 2003 where he continued his ministry and serving the community. Lawrence was a dedicated, faithful and distinguished man. He was an inspiration to all that knew him. Lawrence loved life and people, especially his family. He definitely was a
family man. He loved cooking and baking. He made the best cakes ever.
Lawrence has left his mark on many hearts. He leaves us with so many joyful thoughts and memories.
Among his family Father Esree Taylor Sr., Mother Josephine Taylor, Grandmother Jessie Evans, Brother: Esree Taylor Jr. Sister: Belinda Blickner, Elenora Taylor, Jessie May Boone who preceded him in death.
Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories daughters Sonya Taylor, Yolanda Cummings Taylor (Samuel Cummings), Loretta Taylor (Charles Taylor Tatum) Son: Lawrence E. Taylor Jr. (Cleaster Taylor).
Grandchildren: Antonio, Danamichelle, LaCresia, Antoinette, Raquel, Daron Jr, Shanta, Lakeitha, Bianca, Neco.
29 Great-grandchildren, 22 Great-Great grandchildren, 1 brother Antonio Taylor and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
