Lawrence "Larry" F. Uhl, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in Marion, OH.
One of eight children, Larry was born at Marion General Hospital on August 2, 1941 and was the son of Cletus and Marguerite Uhl.
After graduating from Ridgedale High School, Larry attended Marion Technical College and received an Industrial Engineering Degree. He then went on to attend Business College for accounting where he gained a Junior Accounting Degree.
Larry married the love of his life, JoAnn Fleming on June 15, 1963 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marion, OH. Larry and JoAnn had two children, Tina (Oakley) Sparks and Matthew (Lisa) Uhl.
Larry worked as a Registered Engineer for over 40 years at Fairfield Engineering. He also had a side business of doing income tax and accounting for 30 years.
Passionate about sports, Larry began playing a variety of games from his youth for over 32 years. He enjoyed intermural basketball, baseball and softball. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Watching college sports was a notable pastime for Larry.
Each year Larry and JoAnn would travel to Florida to winter close to their son, Matthew. They enjoyed the time in the sun and time spent with their grandchildren. His grandson, Lawrence, now serves as a 2nd Lt in the United States Air Force in Guam and granddaughter, McKaylie plays college lacrosse as a senior at the University of Alabama – Huntsville. He also enjoyed watching his grandchild, Iain, bowl and sharpen knives together.
Including his parents, Larry was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas, Richard and Eugene Uhl; and sisters: Betty Bishop, Peggy Richie and Rosemary Boblenz.
Larry will be greatly missed by his two children: Tina (Oakley) Sparks and Matthew (Lisa) Uhl; three grandchildren, Iain, Lawrence and McKaylie; and sister, Alice Poorman.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Snyder Funeral Homes, Gunder/Hall Chapel, 347 West Center St., Marion from 11:30AM to 1:45PM; Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Church 251 North Main St., Marion at 2PM.
If desired, donations may be made to the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association (HOJGA) P.O. Box 821, Marion, Ohio 43301-0821.
Larry was proud to help establish this association for the youth.
