Lawrence "Larry" Walters, 74 passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 2nd, 2023. Larry was born May 9th, 1948 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Rex and Sadie Walters. He was the youngest of 10 children and often joked that he grew up with 6 sets of parents. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1966 and organized their class reunions until very recently. He went on to college at CSU, eventually obtaining his Master's Degree in Special Education. In 1970, Larry married Barbara Griffee, the couple later divorced. In 1977, he married Deborah McRae and became step-father to Erin Keplinger and in 1982, Deborah and Larry's daughter Sarah was born. In the mid 70's, Larry took a break from working with special needs people to work for his brother Bob as a plumber, where he worked as a master plumber and later in plumbing supply until he retired.
Larry will be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor, and kindness. He held a special place in the hearts of so many, truly a gentle giant. Larry loved his family and friends fiercely, he was willing to do anything for them. He was generous and thoughtful and was a brilliant story teller. Many people have countless memories of long, deep conversations with him filled with copious amounts of laughter and tears. He had a special gift of being able to circle in on exactly what mattered. It was a privilege to love and be loved by him.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, with the exception of his sister Mary Smith of Utah. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Hagedorn, his son in law Steve, and his step-daughter Erin Altschule, her husband Josh and their daughter Sasha as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on April 14th, 2023 at Trinity: Forge Road Brewery, 4630 Forge Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 from 2:30-6:00pm.

Larry was definitely a special person. We met through Sarah our now daughter in law. I will always remember his wit and sense of humor. I will especially remember how kind he was to our son Steve. Rest well Larry and may the perpetual light shine upon you!

I knew Larry at St. Marys. We played basketball for a town team in our twenties. I got help from him for problems with plumbing several times. Good man and good memories.

I'm terribly sad to have read about my classmate, my friend Larry's passing. He was such a force, such a wonderful and caring human being! We went to high school and although I haven't lived in Colorado for a while, I saw Larry a handful of years ago and was able to laugh about old times with him. He will be missed by many who were lucky to have known him. My condolences to his family. Sincerely, Lani Duarte Robbins
