Layne Henry Elmer age 72, of Birdseye Utah, died September 28th 2025 at his home.
He was born February 12th 1953 in Payson Utah. Only son to Henry Levi Elmer and Lauretta Howard Elmer. He lived in his beloved Birdseye for the majority of his life. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1971 and promptly entered the United States Airforce where he served for 3 years as a Geodetic Surveyor.
After returning from service he worked in Birdseye for Clyde Condley who was a very close family friend and who Layne had much respect and admiration. In 1981 he married Cindy Sanford and they had 2 children that Layne loved dearly and was extremely proud of. They later divorced. He retired from Geneva Steel in 2001 where he was the manager over Central Maintenance.
He loved the outdoors, fishing and sitting on his porch. He enjoyed going on trips with his son to Wendover every year for their birthdays.
It meant a lot to him to stay in Birdseye until his passing and we are grateful that wish was fulfilled.
He was survived by his son Nicholas Layne (Lily) Elmer and Daughter Marnee (David) Elmer both of Spanish Fork Utah. Grandchildren Cindy, Corbin, Nicholas and Cassius. Sister Connie (George) Olson of Spanish Fork Utah. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Becky Ashmore.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
