Obituary published on Legacy.com by Strickland & Family Cremations & Funeral Services on Apr. 11, 2025.
LCDR Donald R. Midgette, Sr. USCG Retired, 74, passed away Sunday, April 6th, 2025.
LCDR Midgette was born Wednesday October 4th, 1950, in Miami, Florida, to Harry W. Midgette and Alice B. Midgette. Donald served our county proudly for 32 years in the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve. Following his military service, he worked as the Port Engineer for Moran Towing at Naval Base Norfolk, VA, for eight years. Don graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1969 and earned his degree from Old Dominion University in 1978. He furthered his career by attending Officer Candidate School at the Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, VA, serving in various commands across Miami, FL, Mobile, AL, Elizabeth City, NC, Portsmouth, VA, and Washington, D.C.
A man of many talents, Don loved working with his hands and was a licensed Ham Radio Operator. His passion for animals and his unwavering support for the Washington Commanders and ODU Monarch football teams were well known among his friends and family. Additionally, he had a keen interest in studying history, as well as advanced electrical technologies and theories. Donald will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to the country, and his many interests that enriched his life and the lives of those around him.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 45 years, Carrie Olson Midgette, and their two children, Donald Robert Midgette Jr. and Brenda A. Midgette, all of Virginia Beach.
Mr. Midgette will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
