Leah Mary Amerson

Leah Amerson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, surrounded by the love of her family. Born and raised in Bayou Gauche, Louisiana, Leah carried with her the warmth, strength, and joy of the South everywhere she went. She was a true adventurer at heart, from fishing the bayous of South Louisiana with her siblings, to exploring the world alongside her husband, Albert Amerson, Jr. Leah found joy in every season of life. 

In her early years, she loved driving a school bus, where her kindness and laughter made every child’s day a little brighter. Later, her time living in Africa brought her endless stories and friendships, and she especially loved her trips to the Green Market, speaking Cajun French, haggling with the vendors. A proud Louisiana native, Leah loved Mardi Gras and the thrill of riding in parades, bringing smiles and beads to everyone she passed. She also had a deep love for the holidays. Especially Halloween and Christmas, when her home was always filled with the joy, laughter, and magic of the season. 

Her generous spirit shone brightly through her community involvement, and in 2010, she was honored as Tarrant County Volunteer of the Year for her service visiting retirement centers to decorate and sing during the Christmas season. Leah and Albert shared a lifetime of love and travel, creating memories across the globe before settling in Colleyville, Texas, where she spent her final years surrounded by family. 

Above all, Leah was a woman of faith. A steadfast believer in Jesus whose heart overflowed with compassion and grace. She is survived by her devoted husband, Albert; her sons Jon, Al, and Graham; her beloved grandchildren Jade, Leia, Ely, Luke, Molly, and Beaux; her brother Rev. Achan Dufrene; and her sister Naomi Sewell. Leah was preceded in death by her parents, Leonce and Bernadette Inez Plaisance Dufrene; brothers Irvin, Edmond, Weldon, Clinton, and David Dufrene; and sisters Velma Babin, Dora Dufrene, and Lou Ann Beyl.

 Leah’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and faith. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
