Leah Joy Martin Thompson, age 57, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was a native of
Raceland, Louisiana and resided in
Houma, Louisiana.
Leah is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Charles Earl Thompson, a large family of aunts and cousins, as well as a host of friends she considered extended family.
Leah was proceeded in death by her loving parents, Wade Jude Martin and Keturah Coleman Martin, grandparents, Mantin Martin and Rosa Duplantis Martin, J.T. Coleman and Anita Robinson Coleman.
Leah Joy was born on May 2, 1968. Her parents anticipated having a child for many years so they decided early on to include Joy in her name due to how happy they were to finally have her.
When she graduated from Central Lafourche High School in 1986, her proud parents put her graduation picture on a huge billboard to celebrate her accomplishment.
On July 4, 1988 she met the love of her life, Earl, on the day of his baptism. Earl and Leah were happily married on May 27, 1989 and shared a full life and had many good times and laughs together.
Leah Joy had many hobbies that included cross stitching, crocheting and sewing. She loved visiting bookstores, read books often and would have loved to have been a Librarian. From her youth on though, her most treasured book was God's Word the Bible. She happily shared Bible truths with her fellow students, teachers, and in the door-to-door ministry. This led Leah to joyfully dedicating her life to Jehovah and to her baptism on February 22, 1986. She was also eager to engage in the full-time ministry and as a newly married wife to Earl, attended Pioneer school in 1989. They continued to serve Jehovah faithfully together, hand in hand.
Upon discovering that her mother would soon lose her hearing, she diligently learned American Sign Language and was able to aid her mother and others by interpreting at Assemblies and Conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Her immense love for others was the driving force behind her continued learning yet again. She became a Certified Home Healthcare Agent after being a caretaker of two of her beloved aunts, aiding many more ailing people up until her passing.
All throughout Leah's life, she viewed the Almighty God Jehovah as her Shepherd and relied on his loyal love to guide her towards all that is good. She looked forward to the hope of the resurrection of all of her loved ones asleep in death and to the promise in Isaiah 25:8-"He will swallow up death forever, and the sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces."
In memory of Leah Joy's beautiful example of unfailing love, relatives and friends of the family will gather together at 1:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1830 Prospect Blvd. in
Houma, Louisiana on February 14th. The discourse will be given by Brother Howard Davis and will take place at 2:00
