Leanne Barton Obituary

Leanne Barton (née Harrison), 67, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born April 10, 1958, in Mount Evelyn, Australia, Leanne was a standout athlete who became the No. 1 junior tennis player in Australia and later competed professionally, reaching the women's doubles final at the 1979 Australian Open. After her professional career, Leanne devoted her life to teaching and coaching tennis. She lived in Annapolis for many years, where she taught at Old South Country Club, coached at Key School and South River High School, and mentored countless young athletes in the South River community. She recently retired and moved to Georgia to be closer to family, where she volunteered at an animal rescue farm. Leanne was known for her warmth, positivity, and deep love for her family and animals. She especially cherished her role as "Mimi" to her two granddaughters. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Doug Barton; children Christopher, Sam, Harrison, and Kylee; granddaughters Cameron and Avery; 4 dogs; and extended family.
