Leary Leamon McLamb, age 82, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024 at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC, surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11am at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson, NC. Chaplain Catherine Neal and Dr. Michele Miller Morton will officiate. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Leary was born on September 9, 1941 in Benson, NC to the late Leamon McLamb and Bertha Hudson McLamb. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Violet Scott, and his sister, Adarene Graham. Leary was a brick mason for over 30 years and the owner and operator of McLamb Masonry in Jacksonville, NC. Following masonry, in his later years, he was a garage door installer and most recently delivered parts for Southern States Hyundai in Raleigh, NC. Leary was admired by many as a strong, hardworking man who always wanted to provide for his family. His work ethic was unparalleled, and at 82, he was still working full time until the day of his medical incident.
Leary’s #1 passion was his Lord and Savior and his family. He loved all of his girls, his wife and 3 daughters, and was a great girl dad. He enjoyed spending time with his family, the beach, and was an avid Duke basketball fan. He also enjoyed going to car shows, fishing and to the flea market with his best friend, Robert.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Maxine Morton McLamb; daughters, Venus York of Kennesaw, GA, Jennifer McLamb of Raleigh, NC, and Karen Scott, and husband, Christian of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Aspen York, Greyson Scott, and Everleigh Scott; brother, Connie Ray McLamb, and sister, Geraldine Glover; nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind several pets that loved him dearly, his Jack Russell, Jack, and GiGi, his fluffy cat.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers and will be forever grateful for all of the care and support from family, friends and coworkers over the last several weeks.
