Lebert Lester Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - Hartford on Jul. 10, 2024.
Lebert F. Lester II (Gee), 56, of Manchester, CT, beloved husband of Terrell (Thomas) Lester, gained his wings on Friday, July 5, 2024, at home. Born in Hartford on July 20, 1967, son to the late Lebert F. Lester, Sr. and Leller M. Lester (Crawford). Lebert was raised in Hartford, CT and attended Hartford and Cromwell Public Schools. He was a graduate of Prince Tech High School, class of 1985. Lebert's life was fueled by leaving a legacy and defined by his love for family and his faith in The Nation of Islam.
After high school, Lebert continued his education in Atlanta, GA where he graduated from Morehouse College in 1993. Later, he returned to Hartford, CT to open his businesses where he could pour into his community. The birth of "It's A Gee Thang" Barbershop, Salon & Spa began and later, The Institute of High End Groomers, Ajah Nicole hair products for women and L. Fitzgerald distinguished products for men. Lebert took great pride in serving as the keynote speaker at many engagements, conversing with clients, manufacturing products and teaching and branding as The Real Barber Surgeon. A pillar in his community, trailblazer, legend and true master of his craft as a CT Barber Expo Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Businessman of the year award recipient, Nominated and Approved for inclusion in the 2004 Presidential Election Registry recipient to name a few. He was also featured in numerous publications including The New York Journal, Hartford Courant, Hartford Magazine, Hartford Business Journal and West Indian American. Two things he was particularly proud of was being the first to provide free haircuts for kids at the YMCA and prison reform.
If you knew Lebert, you knew his wife, Terrell. Lebert laid eyes on Terrell in 1985 and they haven't looked back since! They fell in love, established businesses, grew their family and became a power couple. His greatest accomplishments are his Dongo Dread who graduated from his alma mater, Morehouse College and his Puddie. Lebert had a wealth of knowledge, gift of gab and also loved reading, singing, dancing, boxing and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He always had that one last video you "had to watch" after every conversation. With his hard work ethic, caring nature and ability to research just about anything, Lebert was definitely someone that many called on for advice regularly.
His greatest joys in life were sharing his success with others and ensuring that other barbers & stylists had the tools they needed to become entrepreneurs. Gee was an influential advocate for his community and wanted everyone to win! He never hesitated to share his wisdom and knowledge, so we ask that you pay it forward and do the same. Each one teach one!
Lebert is survived by his wife, Terrell Lester (Thomas) son, Lebert Lester III and daughter Ajah Lester. He leaves behind brothers Samuel Crawford, Michael Denson, Kenneth (Angela), Frederick Lester, Reginald (Kinyatta), Cecil (Kim) and sisters Queen Fordham (Irie), Diana Payne and Cynthia Hardwick. A host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and an honorary brother, Buster Jenkins.
