LEBORAH HOWARD JONES

Leborah “Bitty” “Mother Jones” Howard Jones departed this life on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the age of 87. She was a native of Gonzales, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Leborah was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Nicholson for many years and helped run Ophelia Restaurant. She was one of the founding members of New Zion Baptist Church, where she sang with the senior and sanctuary Choir, before becoming a deaconess. In later years she was appointed mother of the church where she served until her passing. Beloved wife of the late Ervin Jones. Devoted mother of Tyrone (Joannette), Kenneth, John (Linda), Marlon (Quentella) Jones, and the late Pamela D. Jones. Grandmother of Dameon (Danielle) Weber, Elonia Weber, Danielle George, Tasha (John) Brown, Gary (Dawn) Jones, Sonia (Henderson) Hampton, Lindsey, Danielle (Christopher) O’Connor, Whitney, Natari, and Samantha Jones. Great mother of the late Jasmin Brown. Daughter of the late Rev. Joseph and Elonia Smith Howard. Sister of the late Amelia (William) Anderson, Ophelia (Isreal) Wright, Olevia (Albert) Rogers, Essie Dee (JW)Tyler, Ruby (Duncan Sr.) White, Shirley Howard, and Joseph (Nancy) Howard, Jr. Mother in law of the late Paula Thompson. Daughter in law of the late Samuel A. Sr. and Ethel Jones. Sister in law of Clifton (Jackie), Vernell, Sr., and Ronald Sr. (Sandra) Jones, Hattie Shaw Howard, Barbara Jones and the late Samuel A. Jones, Jr., Gerald Jones, Ernest Jones, Ruby (Joseph) Cullier, Jeanette Jones, and Ruth Williams. Godmother of Mannie White, Sr., also survived by 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited also pastors, officers, and members of New Zion Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at New Zion Baptist Church 1131 Garden Rd. Marrero, LA on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jordan La’Vell Robinson, Sr. officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the above named church.
