Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marietta Funeral Home & Crematory - Marietta on Dec. 4, 2024.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Leclair Joseph Sylvestre, a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Woodstock, GA.
Born on August 12, 1934, in Gonaïves, Haiti, to the late Clotilde Thermophile and Sylvio Sylvestre, Leclair led an extraordinary life filled with intellect, resilience, and unwavering faith. He earned his law degree in Haiti, and in 1965, amid political unrest, he relocated to Congo, where he taught law at the University of Congo. During this time, he ensured the safety of his wife, Rosette, and their eldest daughter, Joanne, by sending them to New York. His wife later joined him in Congo, and in 1967, they returned to New York, where their second daughter, Petrovna, was born.
The family eventually settled in Brooklyn, NY, welcoming sons Clery in 1969 and Vladimir in 1970. In 1971, Leclair relocated his family to Boston, MA, where he lovingly raised his children, instilling values of faith, tenacity, and dedication.
Leclair was a man of extraordinary intellect, often described as having a mind like an encyclopedia. He was filled with knowledge, and neither age nor illness could diminish his wisdom or sharpness. Even in his final moments, he remained astute, a testament to his fortitude and strength.
More than a father, Leclair was a mentor and guide who touched the lives of countless individuals. Many have shared heartfelt words about his profound impact: "If it weren't for your dad, I wouldn't be who I am today." His influence helped shape the success of teachers, nurses, doctors, engineers, lawyers, and many others. His legacy is one of empowerment, inspiration, and generosity.
Above all, Leclair was a Man of God and Love. Every Sunday, he and his beloved wife faithfully led their children to church, where they served as altar servers. He shared Bible verses with his family, placing them on the walls of their home as enduring symbols of his deep faith and devotion.
A close family friend recently wrote, "Givers are never forgotten," a phrase that perfectly encapsulates Leclair's essence. His generosity-whether through his time, resources, or acts of kindness-left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched.
