Lee H. (Friedman) Backman, 77, of South Windsor, beloved companion of Bernie Lahickey for 40 years, died peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Lee was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 29, 1946, daughter of the late Joseph Friedman and Martha (Eisenberg) Friedman-Visali. She graduated from Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, CT while raising her family. Lee worked in computer programming for Aetna and Verizon, and as a consultant for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Upon her retirement she wintered in Zephyrhills, FL. She loved dancing, cruising, kayaking, video games, bingo, cheering on her UConn girls, and touring the U.S. in her motor home, visiting over 20 National Parks. Lee was a creative woman who enjoyed making jewelry and crocheting. She was a kind, caring, devoted, and amazing mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, companion and friend to many. She will be dearly missed. She leaves her children, Robyne Brennan and her husband Craig of Chester, CT, Stacey Gay and her husband Greg of Taunton, MA, and Jeffrey Backman and his wife Nicole of Santa Cruz, CA. She adored her 8 grandchildren Kyra and Erin Brennan, Jeremy, Marisa, Zachary and Eliana Gay, Stella and Maximilian Backman. Nana Lee was their number one fan. She also leaves her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob, Larry, Maureen, Barbara, Paul and Ethel, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her infant son, Jeremy Backman, and her sister, Audrey Goldstein. Lee was a true warrior, surviving multiple illnesses and surgeries. Her strength and determination will always be an inspiration. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 12 Noon at Beth Olam Cemetery, 71 Edith Rd., Vernon.
