David Lee Causey, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Lantana, Texas, on May
25, 2023. Lee was born on February 3, 1939, in Jacksonville, Florida, to his late parents,
Wilbur E. and Evelyn A. Causey.

Lee married his college sweetheart Anita (Curren). He loved his wife and the 5 children
they proudly raised during their 63-year marriage. Lee introduced his faith to them as
children, just as his parents did for him. In his role as grandfather (aka “Bubba”), the joy,
mischief, and laughter he shared with his grandchildren will always be cherished in our
hearts and memories.

Throughout his life, Lee was known for his charisma, leadership, generosity, passion,
and excellence; to say he lived a full life is an understatement. Lee was a scholarship
football player for the Florida Gators. He served honorably as a U.S. Army Military Police
Officer. Lee was a visionary, innovator, and true pioneer in the health and weight loss
industry for over 60 years; his expertise culminated in co-founding FirstFitness Nutrition
with his daughter, Candy, and the company’s president, Nigel Branson.

Lee also pioneered one of the first health spa chains, created the world’s first “diet
shake,” had a successful quarter-horse business, and served as a church deacon. Lee
and Anita were passionate about daylilies—earning numerous flower show awards as
they turned daylily gardening into an art form.

Lee is preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilbur & Evelyn Causey, his brothers,
Gary Causey & Robert Causey, and Lee & Anita’s daughter, Lisa Causey. He is survived
by his loving wife of 63 years, Anita Louise Causey; 5 children, Debbie Causey, Candy
Causey Frazier (Dan), David L. Causey, Jr. (Karen), Clint Causey (Amy), Alisha Causey
Smith (Loren); and 12 grandchildren Heather Causey, Hannah Causey Elkins (Jake),
Preston Branson (Callie), Kacie Branson, Landon Branson, Camala Branson, Brandon
Causey (Abby), Jacob Causey (Faith), Hannah Causey, Tyler Smith, Zackery Smith,
Ryan Smith; and 1 great-grandchild, Maverik Branson.

A Celebration of Life service has been planned for Saturday, June 24, 2023, 2:30 pm at

Lee, was a neighbor and friend. I miss our conversations, his advice and his positive attitude about everything! Lee was a strong, spirit-filled Christian man and is in a heavenly place keeping an eye on things for us like he did in the service. Miss you Lee...! Mark Nolan

Never knew Lee was in the military. Which branch and what years?
I was in the Marines and Korea (1952-1955) and also a medical officer in the U.S. Navy (Viet Nam War).

As a kid I can remember Lee barefoot water-skiing in the Ribaulr River by Uncle Wilburs house. Lee being my first cousin, I have tons of memories like that. He was quite the guy. Nothing he couldn't do. Last time I saw him was at Uncle Wiburs funeral. As always he looked great. Good bye Lee. God bless. David L. Causey Jr.
