Lee Martin Larson, 75, of Marion, IL, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the hospital with his family by his side.
Lee was born on November 30, 1948, in Rockford, IL to Martin and Marjorie Larson.
Lee graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in engineering in 1970. He worked for GTE/Verizon for his entire career in various roles and retired from there in 2003.
Lee married Marsha (Backs) Larson on August 22, 1970, in Belvidere IL. They were blessed with two children, Brandon and Jeremy.
Lee was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion, IL. He served in several capacities at the church including being an usher and volunteering in the soup kitchen. He loved being outdoors, especially camping, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf with his sons and friends as well as slow-pitch softball for his church. He was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears as well as the SIU football & basketball teams.
Lee is survived by his wife, Marsha; two sons, Brandon (Debbie) and Jeremy (Michelle); five grandchildren, Tyler, Brody, Tessa, Ashley, and Katie; three brothers, Marlin, Marty, and Brad; and three sisters, Kathy, Becky, and Linda; as well as many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lee will be remembered fondly for his love of the Lord, devotion to his family, his kindness and generosity, as well as his hard work ethic.
As Lee always reminded us, "It's all part of the process".
