Lee Thomas Markham, age 26, was pronounced dead on February 7, 2025, after an apparent fall from a remote hiking trail in Texas. He was born on July 30, 1998, in Hancock, the fourth son of Robert W. Markham Jr. and Mary T Markham. He graduated from Chassell Township Schools in 2016 with honors. He took after his dad and played baseball for many years, starting in Little League and continuing with Legion Baseball. He also was very fond of the backwoods and streams, fishing whenever he could, and hiking long distances. In fact, the last time he was in the Copper Country, it was to go fishing first and then to visit with family.
After high school, Lee went into the Army and then created a Tree Service Business in Texas called Hill Country Tree. After several years of a successful business and getting an Angi Award, (ie, an award that recognizes businesses that provide exceptional quality, service, and value to their customers), he sold that business to continue his education. He was enrolled at the Central Texas Community College, studying Chemistry with plans to enroll at a 4-year university in the future.
Lee is survived by his mother, Mary T Markham, and brothers Andrew (Shannon) Markham of Lacey, Washington, and their children, Audrey, Vincent, and Amelia; Jonathan Markham of Houghton and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska; and sister Rebecca (Tyler) Lowney of Eastport, Michigan.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Robert Markham Jr., and his brother Robert Markham III, as well as his paternal grandparents, Robert Sr. and Catherine Markham, his maternal grandparents, Larry and Marilyn Tomlinson, and his Uncle Bob Tomlinson.
The Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service - Hancock Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. A memorial and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
