Lee Allan Potter Age 85, U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran
Lee Allan Potter, age 85, of Tinley Park, passed away on November 1, 2025, with his family by his side. Lee was born in Chicago on March 28, 1940, to Vern and Rita (Young) Potter.
Lee was a proud 2nd generation Marine Corps veteran, serving from November 13, 1958, to December 7, 1962. He was a Corporal with A-4 Squadron VMA-533 and worked as an aircraft electrician.
Following his military career, Lee began working for Standard Oil, where he met the love of his life, Beverly Obiala. Although she was engaged to someone else when they met, Lee's charm and fun sense of humor won her over and they were married on February 3, 1968.
Lee and Beverly welcomed two children, Brian and Heather, who were Lee's pride and joy. He was a true family man who never went a day without telling them he loved them. When grandchildren came later, that love only deepened. He was a proud papa to Jenna, (late) Blake, and Amelia. There was nothing more important to him than family.
Lee was best known for his sense of humor and always had a new joke for you or an old one that he told over and over. He was immediately liked for his friendly nature and sharp wit by everyone who met him. Lee was a volunteer at Palos Hospital for many years, driving a golf cart to get patients to their appointments and various destinations within the hospital. He loved meeting new people and trading stories while also helping his community.
Lee enjoyed discovering new restaurants and visiting old favorites. It was not uncommon for him to drive hours to find the best hot dog, beef sandwich, or gelato. As a movie buff, he enjoyed going to the theater and watching his favorite shows at home. Over the years, he also collected trains, stamps, and coins.
Survived by his loving wife Beverly; son, Brian (Betty) Potter; daughter, Heather (Christopher) Persons; granddaughters, Jenna (Jared) Hampton and Amelia Persons; brother, David (Evie) Potter.
Preceded by his parents, Vern and Rita Potter, grandson, Blake Persons, and brother, Ronald (Patricia) Segan.
