Mary Ann Cook (nee Scannell)
Mary Ann Cook passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She faced every challenge with strength, humor, and grace--determined to keep finding joy in what she loved most: her family.
Born and raised in the St. Bede parish, Mary Ann grew up surrounded by close family, lifelong friends, and a strong sense of faith. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Mary Scannell, who instilled in her the values of kindness, faith, and family that guided her throughout her life. It was during those childhood years that she met the love of her life, Bill. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and a marriage that lasted 47 years. Their first home was perfectly placed between both of their parents' houses-an arrangement that suited Mary Ann and Bill just fine, keeping family always close at hand.
Loving wife of Bill, for 47 years; the devoted mother of Bill (Jill) Cook, Tony (Mary Kate) Cook, and Bridget (Joe) Costabile; and the proud "Mommo" of Keegan, Jemma, Zage, Mae, Hannah, Will, Jack, Joe, and Liam. Her grandkids were the light of her life-each one holding a special spot in her heart and knowing that Mommo's love was always filled with warmth, laughter, and endless pride in all they did.
She was the beloved sister of P.J. (Rose) Scannell, John Scannell, Kathy (Matt) Murphy, and Mike (Cheryl) Scannell; dear sister-in-law of Tom (Marianne) Cook, the late Charlie (Dottie) Cook, and Cathy (Dave) Wolski; and a cherished aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Mary Ann dedicated 45 years to her calling as a nurse, with her proudest role being her 17 years spent as the school nurse at St. Laurence High School. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and cared for-whether it was a family member or friend who needed to talk, a sick student, a worried parent, or a coworker who could use a good laugh. She was the kindest, most caring, and selfless person you could ever meet. Never one to complain, Mary Ann always found a way to look on the bright side, bringing comfort and calm to everyone around her.
Mary Ann's legacy is one of love, laughter, and family-values she carried with her every day and passed on to those lucky enough to know her.
