It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Leland "Lee" Dixon, Sr., 77, of Apex, NC. Lee peacefully departed this life on March 14, 2024.
Born on February 26, 1947 in Durham, NC to the late J.D. Dixon and the late Margaret Goodman Dixon, Lee's journey through life was marked by bravery, service, and unwavering dedication.
At the young age of 16, Lee answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army. Throughout his distinguished 20-year military career, he courageously embarked on two tours in Vietnam, serving as an MP and earning numerous accolades, including a Purple Heart, The Humanitarian Service Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, and a Bronze Star.
Following his military service, Lee continued to serve his community as the head of security at Durham Tech, where he also received a degree, and as the Division III Commander of the NC American Legion.
Lee cherished moments spent at the beach, the sound of country music, attending performances at the Durham Performing Arts Center, admiring fast cars, and the companionship of his beloved cat, "Tomcat."
Lee leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Carolyn Dixon; his son, Lee Dixon, Jr. (Lisa); his nephew, Randy Riley; his step-children, Thad (Julie) and Melanye (Mike); and his step-grandchildren, Dylan, Will, Emily, and Andy.
Lee was preceded in death by his late wife of 40 years, Nancy Massey Dixon, and his parents.
May we find comfort in the memories we shared with Lee and honor his remarkable life by carrying forward his spirit of courage, service, and love. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Lee.
