Deacon Lemuel "Pete" Evans, was born on September 8, 1946, in Aiken, South Carolina to Paul Evans Jr. and Ollie Mae (Evans) Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdad Willie Bennett. "Pete," was the oldest of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his brother Ruben Evans and sisters Henrietta Spann and Willie Mae Bradley. His son, Lemuel "Poppa" Evans, II also preceded him in death. He entered eternal rest on December 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and unwavering devotion to God, family and the community.

He was educated in the public schools of Aiken, South Carolina where he graduated from Martha Schofeld High School. He began his journey of service by enlisting in the United States Air Force. Pete joined the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in 1970.

As a devoted and retired Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer he served 33 years with honor and humility, always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a prayer, or provide words of laughter. His life was a testament to his love for God and his commitment to serving his family and the Jacksonville community.

He was united in holy matrimony to Emma on March 20, 1976. To this union three beautiful daughters were born. Pete accepted Christ at a young age and joined Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1995. He was ordained as a Deacon and faithfully served on the Deacon Board for many years. He also had the privilege to serve as the Leader of District #23.

Deacon Evans was a humble servant and steadfast believer, he lived a life marked by compassion, integrity and a sincere commitment to helping others. His kind heart, gentle and fun- loving spirit, wise counsel and faithful dedication touched the lives of all who knew him.

Pete will be deeply missed and wants the work he's done on this earth to speak for him. He leaves to carry on his legacy his devoted wife of 49 years, Emma Evans, his three dedicated daughters Selena Hodge, Monica Frazier (Clarence "CC") and Tracye Smith (Mario), adopted son Trevor Brown. Sisters Pauline Black (Herbert) and Claudine Cruce (Bobby) and brother Michael Evans. Sisters-in-law Mary Pough, Nadine Crooms, Loretta Crooms & Betty Evans. Brothers-in-law Connie Spann and John Bradley. Loving grandchildren; Justin Hodge, Tyler Smith, Davin Hodge, Mackenzie Frazier, Trinity Hodge, Solar Frazier & Mason Smith. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends, church family and all whose lives he touched. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a well lived life and find comfort in knowing he now rests in the presence of the Lord.

Lemuel "Pete" Evans 79, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025. He was born in Aiken, SC.

Mr. Evans was employed with the Jacksonville Sheriff Office as a Police Officer for 33 years. He served as a Deacon for Shiloh Baptist Church. Survivors includes wife, Emma; daughters, Selena Hodge, Monica Frazier (Clarence) and Tracye Smith (Mario); 7 grandchildren; Siblings, Pauline Black (Herbert) and Claudine Cruce (Bobby) and Michael Evans.

The funeral service for Lemuel Evans will be held 11 A.M., Friday, December 19th, 2025 at the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1118 West Beaver Street Jacksonville, FL 32204, Dr. H.B. Charles, Jr., Pastor, with Rev. Al Letson, Sr. officiating. Please assemble at the Church on Friday. The visitation will be 5-7 P.M., Thursday, December 18th, 2025 at Funerals by T.S. Warden, 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 11 A.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Arrangements in care of Tyrone S. Warden, FDIC, 4315 N.
