Warren - Lena M. (DeNoncour) Dexter, a cherished matriarch and a beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the Grace Barker Nursing Home in Warren, RI. Born on February 12, 1922, in Providence, RI, Lena's life was a tapestry of dedication, warmth, and ingenuity, woven through the years with the threads of family, faith, and workmanship.
The wife of the late Walter E. Dexter, Lena was the cornerstone of her family, providing unwavering support and boundless affection. A loving daughter to her late parents, Joseph and Onezema (Broullette) DeNoncour, she was the nurturing mother of Walter E. Dexter, Jr. and his wife Mary Jane of East Providence, and Doris L. Berube, who was predeceased by her husband Ronald of Swansea. Lena's love extended to her siblings, the late Harvey, Napoleon, Edward, Victor, Albert, Ernest, and Louis DeNoncour, Laura Quinn, Blanche Turcotte, and Doris Nasiatka, and she was a treasured aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her legacy flourished through her seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
For three decades, Lena's craftsmanship shone brightly at the Imperial Knife Company, where she served as a skilled silverware maker. Her dedication to her craft was matched only by her commitment to her communities of faith at St. Brendan Church and St. Martha Church. Lena's spirit of service was evident in her active participation in nursing home activities, reflecting her belief in the value of community and connection.
An eight-year resident of Warren, having previously lived in Riverside, Lena's presence was a gift to all who knew her. She was a communicant of both St. Brendan Church and St. Martha Church, embodying the virtues of faith and fellowship. Her creativity knew no bounds, flourishing in the crafts she lovingly made and shared. Lena's kitchen was a place of warmth and wonder, where she delighted in cooking for her family, infusing each dish with love and tradition.
Lena's attributes of being loving, friendly, and creative were not merely descriptive words but the essence of her being. Her friendly smile was a source of comfort, and her creative spirit inspired those around her. Lena's unwavering love was the foundation upon which her family grew and prospered, and her memory will be cherished as a guiding light that continues to shine in the hearts of those she touched.
As we bid farewell to Lena M. Dexter, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will continue to resonate for generations. Her departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to cross paths with her.
