Lenmore L. "Jim" DeBerry Jr., age 83, of Tecumseh, passed away Aug. 8, 2025, after a period of failing health.

He was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Warwick County, Va., the son of Lenmore L. and Lorain Faith (Mason) DeBerry. He and his father raised horses and were active in the harness racing circuit from Virginia to Florida. In his later years he owned and operated a used furniture/antique store in Deland, Fla. On July 6, 1995, he married Sandra (Furgason) Downing in Deland. Sandy and Jim remained in Florida until she retired in 2017, then moved to Tecumseh. They enjoyed 25 years together until her death on March 9, 2020.

Among his survivors are a brother-in-law, Roger (Mary) Furgason of Britton; sister-in-law, Marge Furgason of Tecumseh; nieces, Jennifer (Daniel) Rhoades of Chicago and Nancy (Joe) Downard of Britton; a grandson, Tad Meyers of Georgia; and other relatives in Virginia and Florida. In addition to his wife, Sandy, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jim Furgason.

Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Tecumseh. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Cambrian Assisted Living of Tecumseh or Optimal Care of Bingham Farms in appreciation of their compassionate and loving care of Jim in his final days
