Lennie Ruth Jones was born to Linnie J. and Maudie Goolsby in Crockett, Texas. She attended school in Latexo, Texas, and she left school to help provide for the family as a young teenager. Lennie Ruth met the love of her life, Lamar (Rooster) Jones on the city bus in Houston, Texas. They married in November of 1955. In 1959, they were blessed with a daughter, Patricia. In 1962, they were blessed with another daughter, Charlotte. Lennie Ruth was a homemaker until 1967. She drove a school bus for part of her career and then she taught in the classroom where she retired after 31 years with the Aldine ISD. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Wiley Hotel, and cooking for the Garrison Fire Department. She also ran the Rusty Rooster Diner alongside her husband and her daughter. One thing about Lennie Ruth, she was always there to help someone in need. She never met a stranger, and she always had a smile on her face. Lennie Ruth was deeply devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, caning, baking, quilting, sewing, bowling, and helping Lamar in the garden. Most of all, she loved the Lord.
Lennie Ruth is survived by her loving husband of almost 70 years, Lamar (Rooster) Jones; children, Patricia Baker and husband, Buddy, and Charlotte Chandler and husband, Craig; siblings, Milton Goolsby, and Betty Garner and husband, Buck; grandchildren, Nicholas Harvey, Nicolette and Ryan Steadman, Joshua and Miranda Baker, Ryan and Kalee Baker, and Cole Chandler; great grandchildren, Raiden Martinez, Harlee Britton, Luke Baker, and Whitley Steadman along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Linnie J. and Maudie Goolsby; brother, L.J. Goolsby, and sister-in-law, Janice Goolsby.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Baker, Ryan Baker, Cole Chandler, Raiden Martinez, Terry Chandler, and Stanley Pennington.
