Lenore O'Connor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home on Mar. 31, 2026.
Lenore Kattany O'Connor, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 28th, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born and raised in the Gage Park neighborhood of Chicago, Lenore was the beloved daughter of the late Susan Kattany and Ferris Kattany. She was the cherished sister of the late Therese Flannery and Joseph Kattany (Marge Samar).

On October 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Joseph O'Connor - who first entered her world as the brother of her very dear friend, Betty. Their marriage was built on friendship, loyalty, and devotion, and together they created a home centered on love and family.

Lenore became a mother in 1968, a role she embraced wholeheartedly. She was the devoted mother of Susan O'Connor, who preceded her in death, and Maureen O'Connor Bartoli (Chris).

Her greatest joy in life - and the true loves of her heart - were her grandchildren: Jessica, Amanda, Alyssa, and John Bartoli. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by them. She also cherished summers in Abbey Springs, where she formed lasting friendships and enjoyed time with her many dear "lake friends." She also treasured her annual February visits to Naples, Florida. For many years, she hosted O'Connor family Christmases to perfection, creating traditions and memories that will be remembered forever. Whether traveling or simply gathering at home, she valued every moment with her family.

A woman of strong Catholic faith, Lenore's life was guided by devotion, prayer, and a deep sense of responsibility to care for those she loved. She expressed her love in quiet, steady ways - keeping a spotless home, making sure everyone was provided for, and always putting her family first.

She will be remembered as a devoted spouse, the very best mother (and even better grandmother), a protective sister, and the steady heart of her family. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Lenore leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love that will continue through generations.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan Elizabeth O'Connor '90 Endowed Scholarship at Saint Mary's College, 110 Le Mans Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556 or at saintmarys.edu/donate.
