Leo Oscar Benoit, beloved husband, father, and Pepere, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Born in Taftville on September 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Albert and Amanda Benoit. Leo spent nearly his entire life in Taftville before moving with his cherished wife, Alice, to Mystic Healthcare and Nursing Home three years ago. On December 26, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville, Leo married the love of his life, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and love.

Leo is survived by his loving wife, Alice; daughter Sandra Silva and husband Larry of Lisbon; daughter Diane Ducharme and husband Glen of Bozrah; son Daniel Benoit and wife Terri of Norwich; daughter Paula Sinko and husband Steve of Salem and son Paul Benoit of Taftville. His memory will live on in his cherished grandchildren, Chrystal Ruley, Ellis Ruley, Aimee Vetter, Kelly Turkington, Jennifer Benoit, Amanda Strickland, Stephanie Guertin, Kara Sinko and Kayla Sinko and his adored great-grandchildren, Phoebe Vetter, Zane Vetter, Cole Turkington, Layla Turkington, Bradley Strickland, Madison Strickland and Brody Peterson.

Leo and Alice shared a devoted bond for more than 71 years, cherishing every moment together with their family and friends.

Leo built his career as a Postal Carrier and Clerk at the Taftville Post Office, and outside of work he found joy in the outdoors. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. Sports were another of his lifelong passions. He played baseball and basketball in the Sacred Heart CYO leagues and later became a coach, proudly leading his basketball team to win the New England Championship. A loyal Yankees fan, he followed the game with great enthusiasm throughout his life.

A lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Taftville, Leo dedicated countless hours volunteering for both the parish and its school. In retirement, he continued to keep busy, running his antique clock business and working at the Guillot Funeral Home, where he found great fulfillment in helping others.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but we are comforted in the knowledge that he is reunited with his loved ones and now rests in the eternal presence of the Lord, our God.

The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, August 21, at the Godere-Guillot Funeral Home, 21 North 2nd Avenue in Taftville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 22, at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Taftville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Leo to Sacred Heart Church, 156 Providence Street, Taftville, CT 06380.

Worked with Leo at the Taftville Post Office & he was a wonderful, kind individual who never spoke ill of anyone. It was only years later that I found out that I played basketball against him & I remember Leo as very good & humble player. It was a privilege to have known & worked with him.
