Leo Eckert Obituary

Leo “Jack” H. Eckert, Jr., 81, of Millersville, PA; beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy.

Born in Lancaster on March 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Leo and Evelyn (Brady) Eckert.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Lapham) Eckert, his children, Michael Eckert, Lance Eckert, Kenneth Eckert and Amy Thomas. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Nathan Eckert, Morgan Thomas, Dillon Thomas, Kullen Eckert, Mackenzie Eckert, Conner Eckert, Cody Eckert, Kaleb Eckert and a sister Patti Sauders.

Jack was a graduate of Penn Manor High School, class of 1962. He attended Millersville State Teachers College.

Jack was a retired Millersville Boro police officer of which he served for 19 years, 1974 to 1993. He served as a patrol officer and detective. After his retirement, he was elected as Magisterial District Judge in 1994; he ran for 3 terms of 18 years and retired in 2012. He then served as substitute Senior Judge.

He was avid hunter and golfer; he also enjoyed fishing. His cabin was his oasis and his get away from the hustle and bustle of life. He was a member of the Millersville VFW Post 7294.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, John “Jack” V. Sauders.

A memorial service will be held at Penn Manor High School, 100 E. Cottage Avenue, Millersville, PA on Saturday, September 20, 2025, starting at 3 pm; with visitation from 1-3 pm.
