Leo E. Lorg

Leo E. Lorg, 97, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, at the Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, KS. Leo was born on January 5, 1925, to Rosa and Leo Lorg in Goddard, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents, Rosa and Leo; and two sisters, Leona Stuhlsatz and Edna Girrens.
After graduating from Goddard High School, he joined the Navy in June 1944. He was a World War II veteran and is an Okinowa and Iwo Jima survivor. He was proud to serve in the Navy on the USS Hyde, which transported Marines to and from conflict areas in the South Pacific. He received several medals of Honor and the coveted Bronze Star. After his tour of duty, he attended Wichita (State) University, graduating in 1950 with an accounting degree. He met his future wife, Patricia Benton, at WU and they married in 1948. They celebrated 72 anniversaries together before her passing in 2020.
Leo truly loved his family and his job. Everything he did was well thought out and he was very successful as a Petroleum Accountant for Rounds & Stewart and Slawson Oil Company. He loved baseball and football. He would usually go to several NBC baseball games at Lawrence Stadium as well as an avid Shocker football (when they had a football program) and basketball fan. He was a member, and held leadership roles in, the Petroleum Accountants Society (PASOC), Serra Club, Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) and National Association of Toastmasters.
Leo is survived by his children John (Lori) Lorg, Linda (Larry) Oden and David Lorg; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Vera Mannebach and Florence Carter.
There will be a Celebration of Life with a rosary at 10:00 am and Funeral Mass at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Church of the Magdalen Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed and available to view through Church of the Magdalen's YouTube page, or by clicking "Watch Event" below. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum.
