Bloomingdale, Indiana – Leo "Lee" Massey, 94, of Bloomingdale, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at his residence.
He was born June 2, 1931, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to the late Charles Massey and Helen (Kern) Massey. Lee proudly served in the United States Navy for 22 years as a Deep Sea Diver. Following his military service, he worked for the Town of Rockville Water Department.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockville, the Knights of Columbus in Clinton, American Legion Fellenzer Post 48, VFW Paul Taylor Post 1752, and AMVETS Post 61. Lee was an avid golfer and was lovingly known as "Grandpa" to many beyond his own family.
His wife, Shirley Joan Ray Massey, whom he married June 22, 1956, in Manheim, Germany, preceded him in death on January 18, 2012.
Survivors include four daughters: Cathy Cuthbertson of Rockville, Theresa Watness of Beech Grove, Margaret Aughenbaugh of Tangier, and Diane Wood of Bloomingdale; one brother, Edward Massey; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert D. Massey in 1982 and John J. Massey in 1981; one grandson, Jeremy Newnum; siblings Bob, Joe, Fred, Charles "Bud" Massey, Catherine "Sissy" Canger, and Mickey Canger.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 201 East Ohio Street, Rockville, with Father Joby Puthussery officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville with military honors performed by the Parke County Veterans. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville.
