Leo Meterko Obituary

Leo Curtis Meterko, 50, of Delancey, died unexpectedly following a brief illness at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born in DuBois, a son of Adda Louise (Biggie) Meterko and the late John "Simon" Andrew Meterko. His mother survives and resides in Delancey.
Leo was a 1992 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.
He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, where he was also a member of the Men's Fraternity. He was a devoted follower of God, whose faith guided every step of his life. Whether in joy or hardship, he exemplified a steadfast belief in the goodness of the Lord. His personality and warmth had a great effect on everyone he met. It was said that "our lives were better because of Leo."
He led a simple, but good life.
He cherished his family above all else, finding his greatest joy in the company of those he loved. Among his most treasured relationships was his special bond with his brother Peter. Together they shared countless hours of hunting, conversations and life experiences, their bond completed one another. He was very involved in the Rossiter Miners Baseball team, he enjoyed all the team members, and loved to watch Peter play. Leo had the unique gift of turning strangers into friends. His warm smile, genuine interest in others and open heart left a lasting impression wherever he went.
In addition to his beloved mother, Adda, he is survived by four siblings, Peter Meterko and Damian Meterko, both of Delancey, Adda (William) Fegley of State College and Mary (Sean) Meterko-Hayes of Punxsutawney; nieces and nephews William, Bryton, Brent, Adda and Adrianna Fegley, Malik Meterko and Shea Bevak; and one brother in-law, Samuel Bevak.
He was preceded in death by his father, "Simon" Meterko; one brother, Johnny Meterko; two sisters, Cathy Bevak and Teresa Meterko; and one niece, Sahara Schleef.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Vasyl Kadar.
Interment will follow at the S.S. Peter and Paul Byzantine Cemetery.

I went to school with Leo, Teresa and Johnny. Each were genuine and humble people. My prayers are for peace, comfort and strength for the Meterko family in the difficult days ahead. It is hard to fathom what Adda has been through; may God bless her.
