Virginia Meterko Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Mae Meterko, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at Mulberry Square Health Care.
She was born in Punxsutawney on Oct. 10, 1936, and was a daughter of Kenneth Grindle and Edna Olive (Pearce) Grindle.
She was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.
On Aug. 22, 1959, she married her sweetheart, Andrew Joseph Meterko. They enjoyed 35 years together prior to his death in 1994.
She was a devoted and treasured mother and grandmother for her family. She found her greatest joy in watching her family grow. She took pride in being present, always cheering them on with love and encouragement. Sunday afternoon dinners at her home held a special place in her heart, bringing everyone together around the table to share laughter and stories.
For over 30 years she worked as a teller at Keystone National Bank, where she enjoyed her many coworkers and customers. She had fond memories of her years with her bridge club friends. She also enjoyed watching sports and was a great fan of the Chucks and the Pittsburgh sports teams.
She is survived by three children, Timothy (Sherry) Meterko, and her twins, Todd (Kelli) Meterko and Terri (Sam) Puleio, all of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Sam (Devin) Puleio of Erie, Dean (Madeleine) Puleio of Frisco, Colorado, Andrew (Lindsey) Meterko of Harrisburg, Jerad (Cassie) Meterko of Punxsutawney, Madeline (Darrin) Lettie of Indiana and Luke Meterko of Punxsutawney; one sister, Karol (Tom) Goebel of Raleigh, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, arrangements are private and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home. Inc., Punxsutawney.
Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers and friends at AM/PM Personal Care home, where she made her home for the past three years, as well as the staff at Mulberry Square for their kindness and care in recent weeks.
Memorial donations may be made in Ginny's memory to Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.

I am so blessed to have been able to call this lovely lady my aunt. Aunt Ginny was always so good to me. My childhood vacations were spent in Punxsutawney. Many years we were there at Christmas and for our summer vacation. Aunt Ginny always opened her heart and her home to us. As an adult, my children were able to enjoy her love and hospitality. Most recently....I was able to introduce my best friend, Carol, to the joy of Punxsutawney. Aunt Ginny was never too busy to show us love and compassion. She was always ready to play cards, share stories, or just give a hug. Aunt Ginny....thank you for being you. I love you and you will always have a special place in my heart.
